Rita Roux, 84, of Springvale, a longtime resident of Sanford, died October 4 at Hillcrest Gardens in Sanford.She was born in Laconia, NH on July 7, 1922, a daughter of Abdias and Laura (Sevigney) Cantin. She came to the area as an infant and attended the former Holy Family School.She had been employed with the former Sanford Dress Shop for 10 years, retiring in 1980. She had also worked for Nike and in the cafeteria at Holy Family School.She was a communicant of Holy Family Church, a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Ladies of Ste. Ann.Mrs. Roux enjoyed crafting and had made afghans for each of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bingo.Her husband, Leo Roux, died in 1972.Survivors include a son, Richard Roux and his wife Shirley of Sanford, 3 daughters, Stella Plante and her husband Archie of Sanford, Muriel Langlais and her husband Richard of Shapleigh, Diane Palmer and her husband Danny of Springvale, 2 brothers, Leo Cantin and Joe Cantin, both of Sanford, 4 sisters, Sr. Marie Marc, OSU nee Lucille Cantin of Waterville, Sr. Clement, OSU nee Marie Ange Cantin of Lewiston, Annette Laferte of Sanford, Bertha Cantin of Sanford, 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 AM at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery.Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Newton Center Activities Fund, 35 July Street, Sanford, ME 04073.
