Rita Katherine Caterina

PORTLAND - Rita Katherine Caterina, 89, of Portland, died Thursday May 15, 2014 at Maine Medical Center. She was born in Portland on August 11, 1924 a daughter of James A. and Winnifred E. Gorrivan Quinn. Rita attended local schools and was a 1943 graduate of Portland High School. While in high school she was a horseback rider and member of the Portland Equestrian Team. She also was a 1945 graduate of Shaw's Business School. On September 24, 1949 she married Francis E. Caterina in Portland. As a young women Rita worked for Sealtest Ice Cream. She later worked for Zayre's Department Store for several years. Rita was a longtime communicant of St. Pius X Church and was a former communicant of the Cathedral for the Immaculate Conception. Rita was a great cook and she enjoyed knitting. She was a generous person who liked to travel. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Francis; 5 sisters, Eleanor McCarthy, Gertrude O'Donnell, Ann Charlotte Bird, Norma Regina and Jane Golden Joyce; three brothers, Donald Quinn, John Quinn, William Quinn. Survivors include two sons, Andrew M. Caterina and his wife Cynthia of Jacksonville, FL, Anthony Caterina of Portland; a brother, James J. "Gus" Quinn and wife Elizabeth of Portland; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including Peter Woodman and Susan Kimball. "RITA - SIMPLY THE BEST" Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Avenue, Portland, on Wednesday, May 21, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
