Richard L. Wilkins
Richard L. Wilkins, 80, of Sanford, died unexpectedly at home on January 9th.He was born in Farmington, NH on December 24, 1935, the son of Robert R. and Irma (Place) Wilkins, grew up in Springvale and attended Sanford schools.Over the years he worked for L. V. Allen Construction, Aerofab and Pioneer Plastics. He went to work for the Town of Sanford in the Parks and Recreation Department, then served over 20 years as the director of Public Works, retiring in 2005.For the past 6 years, he had served on the Sanford City Council.He was very active in youth athletics over the years, volunteering for the Sanford-Springvale Little League, Sanford Babe Ruth and the Sanford-Springvale Youth Athletic Association.He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and in his retirement, motorcycling.Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Helen B. (Mucci) Wilkins of Sanford, twin sons Richard Wilkins and his wife Christine of Sanford, Robert Wilkins of Sanford, granddaughters Jessica Wilkins and Autumn Wilkins, both of Sanford, 2 brothers, Robert Wilkins and Gene "Buzzy" Wilkins, both of Barrington, NH, 3 sisters, Eunice Bodge, Judy Stanley and Candace Bilodeau, all of Rochester, NH and several nieces and nephews.Private services will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
