Richard A. Roux, 65, of Shapleigh, passed away in Biddeford on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. He was born on October 12, 1952 at the Kittery Naval Shipyard to Robert and Beatrice (Sharp) Roux. He was a lifelong resident of Sanford, Maine, graduating from Sanford High School in 1971. He recently has been residing on Back Road in Shapleigh, Maine with his loving wife, Gail (Huntress) Roux. Richard was a footwear engineer in the shoe industry for his entire life. He learned the trade from his father, Robert. He most recently worked for the Timberland Company where he spent many years traveling around the world. His co-workers described him as a legend, a friend, an inspiration, and a mentor. Richard was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, both fresh water and in the deep sea. He also was a gentleman farmer, planting a beautiful garden with his Kubota tractor, and caring for chickens at his Shapleigh home. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, spent many hours at the hunting camp in North Waterboro, Maine with family members and treasured friends, and enjoyed visiting with "Jack" at the Shapleigh dump. He was a member of the Lafayette Social Club and the Springvale Social Club. Richard was a man of few words, but when he did speak he had good things to say. He is survived by his wife, Gail, and was a dedicated and compassionate father to his son, Jacob Richard Roux of Alfred, Maine. Jake was a very important part of Richard's life and he enjoyed taking care of him and spending time with him. He is further survived by his parents, Robert and Beatrice Roux of Acton, Maine, his sister Marlene and her husband Brian of Springvale, his brother Stephen and his wife Susan of Sanford, his brother Bill and his partner Mark Mitobe of San Francisco, California, his sister, Rosemary and her husband Leo of Acton, and his brother Kevin and his wife, Lisa of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, and by many nieces and nephews. He had a special place in his heart for his great niece, Peyton Boulard. Other survivors include his grandson Dylan Campbell of Biddeford, his step-sons, Eric Chapais and his wife Donna of Lyman and Jeff Chapais of Springvale, Maine. He is lovingly survived by his mother-in-law, Pauline Huntress and by his sisters-in-law, Karen Dumas of Springvale, Maine, Tracy Desfosses and Debbie Huntress of Sanford. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Walter Huntress. Those wishing to make a charitable contribution in Richard's name are asked to donate to The Alzheimer's Association or to Maine Children's Cancer Center. A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 31st at 11AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Avenue in Sanford.
