Richard G. Lamb
Richard Gordon Lamb, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 04, 2016 with his family by his side. Born October 25, 1927 to Carl J. and Elizabeth Lamb of Springvale, Richard spent his entire life living and working in the community he loved. He graduated from Sanford High School in 1945 and immediately left to serve in the Army during WWII. On his return, he attended Northeast Business School, graduating in 1949. It was that same year that he married the love of his life, Lillian Estelle Grant, and together they built a home, raised their family, and shared 67 years of marriage. Richard worked in the family business, owning and running Springvale Hardware from 1949 until his retirement in 2000. Both Richard and Lillian enjoyed 25 years of wintering in Lakeland, FL where they made many friends and played many rounds of golf. Richard's keen mind, curiosity, and interest in learning never waned. He was active throughout his life in many church and civic organizations. Much of his life revolved around activities at Springvale First Baptist Church where he and Lillian were founding members of the SERECO Club and where he held the distinction of longest active member. Richard was a Past Master of Springvale Lodge #190 and a member of the Kora Shrine Temple Renegades. He served for nine years on the Sanford School Board, was a member of the Springvale Improvement Corp., and was active in the Springvale Fire Department, serving as Assistant Chief. A man of many interests and talents, Richard enjoyed golf, bridge, fishing at East Carry Pond, and woodworking in his shop. As a Director of the New England Hardware Association, he and Lillian traveled extensively in the USA and Canada.He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Lillian; their son Bruce, his wife Mona, and their children, Ethan, Jordan, and Ali of Shapleigh; their son Gary, his wife Judy, and their children Carl J. (wife Ellie) and Andrew; and his great-grandchildren Parker, Charlotte, and Henry, all of Springvale. He leaves one sister, Carolyn Ellis, of Oregon, Lillian's sister, Glenna (and Garet) Richardson, and several nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held Monday, August 8th at 11:00 AM at Springvale First Baptist Church with a luncheon/reception to follow. A committal service will follow at 3:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred, ME. Those who wish may make contributions in Richard's memory to Springvale First Baptist Church, P.O.
