Richard F. Hurd, 77, of Shapleigh, died May 19 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford after a long illness.He was born in Milton Mills, NH on October 12, 1931, the son of Mervyn F. and Alice (Stevens) Hurd. He attended Sanford schools, was a 1949 graduate of Sanford High School and attended Nasson College in Springvale.He served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict.A longtime winter resident of Sarasota, Florida, Mr. Hurd was a member of the Moose Lodge in Riverview, FL and the American Legion in Oakland, Maine.He was predeceased by his brother Roger D. Hurd in 1988.Survivors include his longtime loving companion Norma D. Evans of Sarasota, FL and Shapleigh, his daughter Ellen Hurd, his sister Elizabeth Torno of E. Lebanon, sister-in-law Gloria A. Hurd of Sedro Woolley, WA, several nieces, nephews and cousins including his favorite, Sandra J. (Footer) Knowlton of Mesa, AZ. He is also survived by Norma's family, her mother Bernadine Dunnells of Shapleigh, her children and grandchildren, Bryant Evans, his wife Amanda and their daughter Victoria of Tampa, FL, Irving Evans, his wife Ellen and their children Jeffery and Jillian of Fremont, NH, David Evans and his wife Carolyn of Sarasota, FL, Debra Petersen, her husband Dana and their daughter Chelsea of Sanford, and his longtime friend and fellow sportsman Roger Emard and his wife Theresa of Springvale.At Mr. Hurd's request, no services will be held at this time. Burial will be in the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the charity of one's choice.
