Richard C. Hall
Richard C. Hall, 81, of Alfred died on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Richard was born in Sanford on April 25, 1926 to Clarence and Georgianna Dorr Hall. When he was young, his family relocated to Grafton, New Hampshire where he grew up and attended local schools. He served his country during WWII as a Corporal in the 702 Tank Destroyer Battalion, 2nd Armored Division of the U.S. Army, also known as "Hell on Wheels." Following his service, he worked for several companies including the Waterboro Tanning Company and the Saco Tanning Company. In 1981, he went to work for Cyro Industries where he stayed until his retirement.Mr. Hall was a very hard working and devoted family man. He enjoyed working in the woods; for years he would cut as many as five cords of firewood to keep his family warm during the cold winter months. He also liked working on small engines; he was particularly good at fixing lawn mowers and snow blowers. Richard was very fond of animals. He had raised goats in the past and at one time, had a herd of more than 30. During the 1950's he would supply the local hospital with goats milk for infants that were not able to tolerate cow's milk. His spiritual life was always very important to him. He had been a member of the former North Alfred Baptist Church where he had served as a trustee. He enjoyed singing at church, especially the old hymns. Mr. Hall had an excellent sense of humor and was always playing practical jokes on his family and friends. He enjoyed laughter and it was important to him that those around him were able to enjoy it as well. He also had a very generous and helping nature. Whenever a situation arose, he would not hesitate to drop whatever he was doing to go and help somebody in need. Richard will be remembered as a kind and loving man and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Mr. Hall was predeceased by three brothers, Harold R. Hall, William C. Hall and Philip J. Hall and four sisters, Helen P. Hall Weeks, Mary Francis Hall Miller, Thelma Hall Seamans and Alicia Hall Roberts.Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Harriet Roberts Hall of Alfred; his daughter, Jennifer Hall Ivey and her husband Wendell of Alfred; a sister, Marion Seamans Kirker of Center Effingham, New Hampshire and many nieces and nephews.A period of visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 20th at the Carll-Heald and Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 21st with the Reverend Dr. Kenneth Weldon officiating.
