Richard East

Richard C. East, 88, of Sanford, Maine died on Monday, October 25, 2010 at Greenwood Center in Sanford, ME.Richard was born in Lancaster, Ohio, on October 17, 1922 and attended local schools. As a young man he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for twenty years. In 1948 he married Eleanor Fortier and together they raised two children. After retiring from the military, Richard moved to Vermont where he purchased a dairy farm, which he owned and operated for 24 years until 1988. In 2005 he and Eleanor moved to Sanford to be closer to family.Richard was athletic and enjoyed sports all of his life. He played football and ran track in school, and after retiring from farming, he enjoyed cycling. He remained an avid Ohio State football fan all of his life. He will be remembered as a kind and loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Richard was predeceased by his wife of 59 years Eleanor East.He is survived by a daughter, Robin Crown and her husband William of Needham, MA; a son, Wesley East and his wife Jill of Sanford; and a granddaughter, Sarah Rundell and her husband Matthew of Ohio.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 1st at the Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton, MA.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Greenwood Center Activities Fund, 1142 Main Street, Sanford, Maine 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home in Sanford.To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
