Rene E. Mathieu

Rene E. Mathieu, 88, of Sanford, passed away on Monday May 27, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was born in Sanford on September 17, 1930 a son of the late Theophile and Rose (Bourassa) Mathieu. He graduated from Sanford High School in 1949. From 1951 to 1954 he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Siboney.He then worked locally and in 1977 he started working at the Portsmouth Navy Shipyard retiring in 1993. He was a 3rd Degree Member of the Sanford Knights of Columbus. In his retirement years he enjoyed fishing and hunting.He is predeceased by his siblings, Alma Pelchat, Paul Mathieu, Leo Mathieu, Donald Mathieu, Robert Mathieu. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ethel L. Mathieu, children, Mark Mathieu, Sandra Mathieu Sullivan, Karen Mathieu Ingram, two grandchildren, Shawn Mathieu and Jessica Sullivan, one brother, Arthur Mathieu.A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, June 4th at 1PM at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Homes, 580 Main Street, Springvale.Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com
