Rene Robert Brochu, 77, formerly of Sanford and Springvale, passed away on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey. He had lived in nearby Long Valley, NJ, for the past 26 years.Rene was born in Sanford, son of the late Albert and Pauline (Dumont) Brochu.He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sylvia (Beaudette) Brochu; two sons: Bob (wife Amy) of Long Valley, NJ, and Greg of Phillipsburg, NJ; two grandsons: Adam at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and Jason of Long Valley, NJ; and one brother, Maurice (wife Jan) in Reno, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Harvey.Rene graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1953, and then served in the U.S. Army at Fort Dix, NJ, and Ft. Meade, PA, from 1954-56.He married Sylvia Ann Beaudette in Springvale, on May 21, 1955, and graduated from Nasson College with a B.S. in Chemistry in May 1962.Following graduation, Rene began his career with American Cyanamid Company (now Cytec), where he would spend the next 34 years. After starting out as a Chemist in Sanford, he then transferred to the Stamford, CT, labs. Rene later moved into sales and went on to become District Sales Manager for Water Treating Chemicals in Cleveland, OH, then Regional Manager for Mining Chemicals in Pittsburgh, PA. Rene finished out his career at Cyanamid's world headquarters in Wayne, NJ, where he served as National Accounts Manager for Pharmaceutical Chemicals. In 1996, Rene retired to a disciplined life of yard work and grandfathering.Rene was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Roman Catholic Church in Long Valley, NJ.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish at Notre Dame Church in Springvale. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
