Renaud N. Beland, 88, of Springvale, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2012 at his home.Renaud was born in Sanford on June 13, 1923 to Henry and Marie Louise (Croteau) Beland. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Ignatius and Notre Dame Churches. He was educated at St. Ignatius School and graduated from Sanford High School.Renaud was employed at First National Stores as a manager until he was called to military service in World War II. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army 231st Antiaircraft Artillery Searchlight Battalion. After an honorable discharge, he owned and operated a restaurant and grocery store for ten years and then a Superette Store for ten more years. Renaud did not want to retire as Springvale was going through a structural phase so he began helping with his son's business which he did for six years. He went on to work for the Kennebunkport Post Office where he was employed for 15 years until his retirement. Renaud was a former member and past president of the Lions Club and enjoyed watching football and baseball. He and his wife enjoyed traveling including trips to Europe as well as to the Canadian Rockies. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Aurore (Sevigny) Beland of Springvale; a son, Norman Paul Beland of Springvale and a daughter, Celeste Marie and her husband Kenneth Russell of Kennebunk.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 16th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, located on Payne Street in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending memorial contributions to St. Thomas School, 69 North Avenue, Sanford, ME 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, ME 04083.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
