Real O. Roy, 89, of Sanford, passed away at the Ledgewood Manor in Windham on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 after a period of declining health. Mr. Roy was born on August 17, 1923 in Compton, P.Q., Canada, the son of the late Edmond and Desneige (Bisson) Roy. He attended the former Holy Family School and graduated from Sanford High School. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church.Mr. Roy proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Sanford American Legion Post 19 as well as the Sanford Elks Lodge. He and his wife owned and operated Roy's Market for many years. Later he became an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Mr. Roy enjoyed blueberry picking and was an avid golfer and bowler. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending endless hours in his garden. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.Mr. Roy was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph (Pete) Roy, Laurier Roy, Philip Roy and Edgar Roy and by a sister, Antoinette Legere.Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Lucienne (Chasse) Roy, his daughter, Rachel Olson and her husband Brent of Windham; three grandchildren, Kelli Knapp and her husband Ryan of Hanover, New Hampshire, Kevin Olson and his wife Alexis of Gorham and Katie Hilo and her husband Robert of Bangor; three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Jayden Olson and Elise Knapp; a brother, Emile Roy of Sanford and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 AM on Saturday, January 26th at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will take place in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Ledgewood Manor for their kind and compassionate care.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the Ledgewood Manor Activity Fund, P.O.
