Raymond "Pepere" Plante, 78, of Sanford passed away peacefully at his home in Sanford, on Friday, February 23, 2018 following a courageous battle with a longtime illness.He was born on November 12, 1939, to Romeo and Cecile (Gouin) Plante in Sanford where he grew up and was a lifelong resident.Raymond went to work in local shoe shops a young age, and enlisted in the Maine Army National Guard where he served for 21 years. He went on to work for Pratt-Whitney and retired from there.In 1966 he married Irene Guillemette and together they had three children.He was a communicant of Holy Family Catholic Church in Sanford.Some of the things he enjoyed were gardening, hunting and fishing. His greatest joy, however, came from his eight grandchildren and they meant the world to him.Raymond was a kind, sensitive, family man and will be dearly missed.He is predeceased by his parents and a sister in law, Dolly Plante.Survivors include his wife, Irene Plante, a daughter, Arline Flayhan and her husband Mike, of Sanford, two sons, Steven Plante and his wife April, of Biddeford, and Daniel Plante and his wife Stacy of Sanford, eight grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Katherine, Benjamin, Nicholas, Allisyn, Isaac, and Kassidy, a brother, Robert Plante, sisters, Sr.Aline Plante, Patricia Thibodeau and her husband Hank, Rita Pelletier, Theresa Cote and her husband Mark, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 28, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave., Sanford.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
