Raymond L. McDonald, 86, of Sanford, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2010, at his home in Sanford. Born in Sanford on November 18, 1923, he was a son of the late Raymond L. Sr., and Alda (Vaillancourt) McDonald.He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. For many years he was self employed as a hair stylist in the Sanford Central Square. Known as "Mac the Singing Barber", he joined his wife, Lucille in 1977 at her hair designing business on North Street. A lifelong communicant of St. Ignatius parish, he was a member and director of the Columbians, an all male choir. He also performed with the vocal quartet "The Sophisticats".He was a former chairman of the Sanford Democratic Party and former president of the Sanford Town Club. He was also a past president of the Barber's Association of Maine.He is predeceased by one sister, Mildred McDonald.He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucille (Gauthier) McDonald of Sanford, one sister, Margaret Occaso of Newport, RI, two nephews, John Occaso of Baltic, CT, Raymond Occaso of Kirby, VT, two nieces, Eileen Allard of East Greenwich, RI, Mary Occaso of Newport, RI.At his request there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 23rd at 11AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, Burial with military honors will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.To leave the family a message of condolence please use the "condolences" tab to the left.
