Raymond Bernier
Raymond D. Bernier, 80, of Sanford, died on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Huntington Common in Kennebunk following a lengthy illness.Raymond was born on August 15, 1934 to Victor and Elsie (Hamel) Bernier in Kennebunk where he grew up and attended local schools. After graduating he went to work at Kessler Shoe where he was employed for several years before entering the U.S. Army where he served three years stationed in the Alaskan Territory. After completing his term in the military he returned to Maine and went to work for General Electric where he was employed for 25 years before retiring in 1993. In 1959 Raymond married Pauline Hupe and together they raised one daughter and shared nearly 56 years of marriage.Raymond enjoyed doing carpentry, gardening and traveling. After he retired he and his wife were able to take many memorable trips including traveling cross-country twice and visits to Hawaii and Alaska. He was a devout Catholic and had been a member of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church where he had sung in the choir for many years. Raymond will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Raymond was predeceased by his parents, four brothers, Douglas, Robert, Donald and Paul and by one niece, Roxanne Bevard.Surviving are his wife, Pauline M. Bernier of Sanford; his daughter, Donna M. Bernier of Sanford; three siblings, James Bernier of West Kennebunk, Gloria Bernier of Standish and Carol Fenney of Old Orchard Beach and several nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 2nd at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford.
