Raymond W. Babcock, 68, of Sanford, died Saturday, October 20, 2007 in Yarmouth.Raymond was born in Sanford on November 16, 1938 to Ernest and Eva Rowe Babcock and attended local schools. He was a hard working man and had worked at Sprauge Electric for 20 years before retiring. He always liked to keep himself busy and it wasn't too long after his retirement that he began working at the Pavilion and at the Center for Shopping in Sanford. Mr. Babcock had a very kind heart and genuinely liked helping other people. If he knew of somebody that needed a hand around the house, it was not unusual for him to go over and cut the lawn or assist them with yard work. Raymond always enjoyed being outdoors. He liked going for long car rides to see the foliage and any other sites that he might glimpse along the way. He was a very friendly and personable man. One of his favorite activities was to go to Dunkin Donuts and spend time with his friends. Going out to clubs and singing karaoke was also one of his favorite pastimes. He was an animal lover and was particularly fond of his dog, Rocky and his cat, Snoopy. He liked building models, watching airplane shows and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Sanford and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the AMVETS. Raymond will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Raymond was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, George and William Babcock and a sister, Margaret Bennett.Surviving are his wife, Lilianne Babcock of Sanford; a daughter, Debra Hamilton and her fiance Robert Morton of Sanford; a step-daughter, Tammy Lebel and her husband Trampas of Sanford; 2 grandchildren, Marcia and Jeremy Hamilton; 4 great-grandchildren, Justyn, Gabrielle, Kayleigh and Ryley; 4 brothers, Ernest, Richard, Gerald and John Babcock; a sister, Eva Smith and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 23rd at Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 24th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 163 Lancaster Street, Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101.
