Ralph L Emery

South Portland - Ralph L. "Larry" Emery died peacefully at his home on Monday, May 14, 2018. He was born on May 3, 1942, in Portland, the son of Alfred and Agnes (Allan) Emery. Larry was a graduate of South Portland High School, and shortly after graduating he enlisted in the United States Air Force. It was while he was stationed in Kansas that he met his wife, Loreen Redetzke. They were married 3 years later in South Portland on July 16, 1966. They raised their 2 sons, Michael and Eric, in the same house that Larry grew up in. He was very active in his sons' lives, including attending their football games, and coaching farm league baseball. Larry loved snowmobiling, boating and camping with his family and friends. He loved to garden and many people came to admire his 13-foot sunflowers that bordered his front lawn every year. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Loreen Emery of South Portland; two sons, Michael Emery of Shapleigh, Eric Emery of Durham; three sisters, Laura Daugherty and her husband Hank, Alice Huntley, Viola Scott and her husband Jack; five grandchildren, Kyle, Katy, Kevin, Ella, and Teddy. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Hospice of Southern Maine for their compassionate care of Larry and support of his family. Visiting hours will be held from 10:00-11:00AM on Friday, May 25, 2018, at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Celebration of Larry's life will follow at 11:00AM in the Funeral Home.
