SOUTH PORTLAND - Rae Ellen "Sugarae" Kimball, 63, of Lowell Street died Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Maine Medical Center with her loving family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 10, 1950 in Portland, Maine. She was the daughter of Stanley P. and Viola A. Conley Main. She attended local schools and graduated from South Portland High School in the class 1968. Rae met John Kimball while in high school, after a determined chase Rae agreed to marriage. They were married at the Calvary Chapel in South Portland on August 23, 1969. Together they worked, lived and raised their family in South Portland. Rae and John, owned and operated Kimball's Garage, a South Portland Landmark for more than 50 years. Rae worked as the office manager, greeting customers, working with vendors, and doing the books all the while allowing John to believe he was the boss. Working hard together and raising their family, a 44 year journey, became only stronger as together they faced Rae's battle with cancer with courage and dignity. Rae was an active member of the South Portland Boosters Club all during her children's school years. Together they loved stock car racing at Beech Ridge and OPS, she had a great love for animals and loved her time at the casino's from Oxford to Las Vegas. She also enjoyed crocheting and braiding rugs. Together, Rae and John loved to vacation in the Caribbean Islands, although flying was not her favorite thing to do, a firm grip of John's hand on take-off always made the flight manageable, "Away Great Rocket Ship." Rae is survived by her parents Stanley and Viola Main of South Portland; her husband of 44years John Kimball of South Portland; a daughter Karen M. Kimball and a son Kevin M. Kimball both of South Portland; two sisters Beverly Logan of South Portland, Barbara and her husband Mark Foley of South Portland; six grandchildren Austin and Evan Adams of Naples, Owen Hanscom, Stanley Kimball, Carley Kimball and Madelyn Kimball all of South Portland; sisters-in-law and sisters in heart Joanne Kimball Stegall of SC, Jane Kimball Foley of South Portland and Susan Kimball of South Portland; along with her loving extended family including many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the chapel on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 10:00am followed by an 11:00am graveside service at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress Street, Portland, Maine.
