Resided in: Portland, Maine

Portland-Priscilla Whitney, 89, passed away peacefully at home in Portland, Maine, on October 17, 2022. Born on September 9, 1933, Priscilla was the daughter of Norman and Mildred (Hughes) Tabor. She grew up in Mechanicville, NY, with her brother, Ralph, and was a member of the Mechanicville High School Class of 1950. After graduating from Albany Business School, she worked as a secretary at General Electric in Schenectady, NY, where she met her husband Phil (Philomen) Whitney. Priscilla and Phil were married in 1955, and raised six children. During their 48-year marriage, they lived in Watervliet, NY, Porter Corners, NY, and Cambridge, NY, before settling in Greenfield Center, NY, where they lived for 21 years. Priscilla and Phil worked hard to turn a late 18th-century church into a beautiful and comfortable home for their family. Priscilla was a talented crafter, and also enjoyed gardening, knitting, and sewing. Being with her family was her greatest joy. When Phil retired from Saratoga City Schools in 1986, the couple moved to Columbia Falls, Maine. For the next 17 years, they lived in Richmond, ME, Windsor, NY, Woodstock, NY, and Kerhonkson, NY, renovating and redecorating homes all along the way. Following the passing of her husband in 2003, Priscilla moved to New Paltz, NY, where she made her home until early 2020 when she moved to Portland, ME, to live with her daughter Janet, son Steve, and Janet’s family. Priscilla was the loving mother of Barbara (Lou) Petruzzelli of Gardiner, NY, Jim Whitney of Modena, NY, Steve Whitney of Portland, ME, Rick (Jaci) Whitney of Lewiston, NY, and Janet (Ken) Joyce of Portland. She was predeceased by her son, Tom Whitney, as well as by her parents. She was a devoted grandmother to Matthew Petruzzelli, Julia and Alexandra Whitney, and Tommy and Jill Joyce. Priscilla was a kind and understanding person, quick to laugh, and always ready for a shopping trip. She was a willing accomplice to all sorts of high jinks with her grandchildren. Priscilla was unfailingly supportive of her children and grandchildren, seeing the best in all of us. She will be deeply, deeply missed. Funeral services will be private, and handled under the care of Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, Maine.
