Priscilla L. Elliott
Priscilla L. Elliott, 85, of Scarborough passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Holbrook Health Center in Scarborough.Mrs. Elliott was born in Boston, MA on June 30, 1924 to Frederick and Helen (Hall) Whittemore. She lived in Roslindale, MA until she was 12 years old when her family moved to Stoughton, MA. She attended local schools there, graduating from Stoughton High School in 1941. After finishing high school Mrs. Elliott attended Mt. Ida College in Newton, MA for a time until moving to Georgia to live with her brother and sister-in-law. While living there she worked as a court reporter for the Judge Advocate General at Fort Gordon in Augusta. After staying in Georgia for a time Mrs. Elliott returned to Massachusetts and graduated from Gordon College in Boston with a degree in Theological Studies. In 1944 she married the Rev. Nelson Elliott and moved to Mechanic Falls, ME. The couple lived there and pastored the Mechanic Falls Baptist Church until moving to Fort Worth, TX. While there Rev. Elliott finished his studies in the seminary. After her husband finished his studies, they served churches in Fort Sill, OK, Fort Worden, WA, Newburyport, MA, Dorcester, MA, East Gloucester, MA, Ballston Spa, NY, Sanford, ME and Shapleigh, ME. While she and her husband were serving in these various communities, Mrs. Elliott held several jobs. She worked as a secretary to Williamson Dickie in Fort Worth, TX. At General Electric in Haverhill, MA, she served as a medical secretary at Dr. Babson's office in Gloucester, MA and, she worked as a secretary for Saratoga County in New York until she retired in 1988. Mrs. Elliott, a woman of deep faith, was always very active in her churches and the various state conventions. She enjoyed fellowship activities with the ladies groups and also taught Sunday School. She would always put a lot of time and effort into preparing her lessons for the adult and children's Sunday school classes. Family was always important to her and she particularly enjoyed having summer visits with her granddaughter, Jennifer. Mrs. Elliott will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Elliott was predeceased by her husband Reverend Nelson Elliott; a son, Stephen Elliott and two brothers, Colonel Frederick Whittemore and Wallace Hall Whittemore, Sr. Surviving are her son, Rob Elliott and his wife Wendy of Newfield; a granddaughter, Jennifer Elliott Sombutmai of Jacksonville, FL, a grandson, Robert Elliott of Newfield, a step-granddaughter Nikkol Melnick of Atlanta, GA, a step-grandson STAFF STG David Wm Atwell USAF of Maguire Air Force Base in NJ, two nieces, Mary Lee Stephenson and Helen Dow both of Fort Mill, SC and two nephews, Samuel Winsor Whittemore of Sharon, MA and Wallace Hall Whittemore, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA. Visiting hours will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 31st at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale, ME. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 1st. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the Sanford First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 250, Sanford, ME 04073.
