Priscilla Belcher

Priscilla Belcher,87, of Springvale, Maine, formerly of Melrose, MA, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at the Lodges in Springvale. She was born in Foochow, China on January 5, 1918, a daughter of Harold B. and Marian G. (Wells) Belcher. Her parents were missionaries in China at the time of her birth.The family returned to the United States in 1921 when Priscilla was three years old. Priscilla graduated from Malden High School. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Middlebury College in 1940 and earned a Master's in Counseling from Northeastern University in 1962. She worked as a Red Cross Worker in Army hospitals from 1945-1947, serving in England, Paris, and Nuremburg, Germany. She also worked as Personnel Director of Beth Israel Hospital from 1950-1959 and was an AssistantProfessor and Assistant Director of the Counseling Center at Northeastern University before retiring in 1982. After retirement, she held offices on various boards, including the Melrose Council on Aging and the Community Associates. She was a life member of the AMC and was active in the Melrose Highlands United Congregational Church. During her lifetime, she loved traveling extensively, with England and Scotland as favorite destinations.She is predeceased by one brother, C. Francis Belcher. She is survived by one sister, Louise B. Baker of Springvale, Maine as well as many nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held on Sunday October 23 at 1:30pm at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home 580 Main Street in Springvale.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the Wentworth Homecare and Hospice at 113 New Rochester Road, suite #4 Dover, NH 03820.
