Phillip Albert Lavalley, 71, of Sanford, passed away Friday April 27 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.He was born in Sanford on November 1, 1935, the son of Albert R. and Marie H. (Bastarache) Lavalley.His dad founded the Albert R. Lavalley Lumber Company which Phil and his two sisters operated from 1975 until it was sold in 1999.Phil had many interests. He served as a town meeting member and on the town warrant committee. He was a member of the Springvale Fish and Game Club and a member of the New England Lumberman's Association. He kept busy restoring his 1955 Packard. Phil was an avid sportsman and passed his love of the outdoors on to his sons. A general aviation pilot, he loved to fly his airplane. He enjoyed meeting new people and they soon became his friends.He was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church.Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marlene (Martineau) Lavalley of Sanford, 4 children, Patrick and his wife Lisa, Diane and her partner Bob, Kathleen and her partner Dave, Andrew and his partner Nancy, 2 grandsons Albert and Michael, several stepgrandchildren, his sisters Simonne Rivard and her husband Louis, Sylvia Libbey and her husband Roger, several nieces, nephews and many friends.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. There will be no calling hours, but a reception will be held for family and friends immediately after the burial at the Knights of Columbus Hall on High Street in Sanford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Heart Association, 343 Gorham Road, So.
