Philip C. Hussey, Sr., 73, of Alfred, died peacefully at his sister's home on October 5, 2013. Philip was born in Alfred on April 25, 1940 to Charles and Irma (Phillips) Hussey. He grew up in the Sanford area where he attended local schools. He was employed as a mechanic at several local garages until he established his own garage in Saco,"Phil's Place" which he owned and operated for many years. He also resided in Alaska from 1978 to 1983. Philip enjoyed playing the ponies, watching NASCAR, and watching the New England Patriots. In his younger years, he was a member of many of the local fraternal organizations. Philip will be remembered as an outgoing and social man and will be dearly missed by his family, especially his oldest sister Shirley, with whom he resided for many years. Philip was predeceased by his sister, Diane Hussey Botting and a grandson, Beau G. Cote. Surviving are five children, Karen L. Cudworth and her husband Scott of Shapleigh, Brenda L. Chick of Sanford, Janice E. Fortier of Biddeford, Philip C. Hussey, Jr. of Biddeford and Daniel C. Hussey and his wife Janice of Ossipee, New Hampshire. Five siblings, Shirley Babcock of Alfred, Sylvia Bshara and her husband Arthur of Alfred, Joyce Rodrigue and her husband Charlie of Shapleigh, Charlene Hill and her husband Wilmon "Buster" of Wells and Herbert Hussey and his wife Nancy of Wells; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 12th at Oakdale Cemetery, located on Twombley Road in Sanford. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dawn Ripazza for her assistance, care and compassion shown to Philip during his period of declining health.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Heart Association, 51 US Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, Maine 04074. Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
