Philip John Carpenter

Cape Elizabeth - Philip John Carpenter Sr., passed away on February 19, 2020 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth. Philip was born on May 27, 1938, in Newark, NJ. He was the adopted son of Orson and Lucy (Polk) Carpenter, and his birth parents were John P. & Rose Mary Dean.
After marrying the love of his life, Sue Ann, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He served for 10 years with the the majority of his time aboard the USCGC Barataria.
After his time in the Coast Guard, Philip worked multiple jobs including as a bus driver for Portland METRO. Later, he was employed at the United States Post Office for over 20 years until his retirement. He also, at various times throughout the years, operated a small pet food business, Phil's Pet Foods & Supplies.
Philip's main interests were watching his many grandchildren grow, NASCAR (especially when Dale Earnhardt was racing), the Red Sox (in his younger days) and his, and his families, many dogs throughout the years.
Philip's giving attitude and sense of humor will be sorely missed by his wife of nearly 60 years (on March 19), Sue Ann (Brann) Carpenter; his daughters, Sue Ann Kenny and husband William of Portland, Mary Ann Carpenter of Holiday, FL; sons, David Carpenter and his wife, Melinda of Burnham and Philip Carpenter Jr. and his wife, Rachel of Arundel; his grandchildren, Corey Kenny, Tyler Zerin, Gregory Carpenter Jr., John Carpenter, Noah Carpenter, Travis Carpenter, Ella Carpenter and Orson Carpenter; his sister, Rose Mary Vanderhoff; sister-in-law, Margaret Carpenter of Mars, PA and his beloved dog, Summer. He was predeceased in life by two of his children, Philip Carpenter Jr and Gregory Carpenter; a grandson, Christopher Carpenter; and his siblings Julia Treweeke, Eugene Dean and Helen Hamilton.
At the family's request all services will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to Veterans Count - Maine Chapter.
