Peter R. Wentworth, 61, of Sanford, died unexpectedly after suffering a heart attack during his morning run while vacationing in Montana on Sunday, September 11, 2016.Peter grew up in Somersworth and attended local schools, graduating from Somersworth High School. In 1985 he married Barbara Consolo and together they shared nearly 31 years of marriage and raised two children.Peter worked as a police officer for the City of Portland for over 20 years before retiring as a Lieutenant in 2008. Never one to sit idle, Peter soon went to work for the Biddeford Police Department where he had been a detective for the past eight years. He was very proud to be a police officer and was a certified polygraph operator. Peter ate, slept and breathed police work and loved his career in public service.Peter liked running, biking, kayaking and spending time outdoors. He loved to travel with his wife and his family. They had recently taken two biking trips through Austria and Germany and to Spain. He was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Peter will be remembered as a kind and loving man who was devoted to his family and dedicated to protecting and serving the public. He will be dearly missed. Peter was predeceased by his parents.Surviving are his wife, Barbara Wentworth of Sanford; two children, Katherine and Dan Wentworth, both of Sanford; four siblings, Susan Brown and her husband Norm of Sandown, New Hampshire, Marc Wentworth and his wife Sandra of Barrington, New Hampshire, Lisa Jansen and her husband George of Rollinsford, New Hampshire and Kathy Bridges and her husband Kevin of Wells; his mother and father -in-law, Elaine and Carmen Consolo of Avon Lake, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale from 2:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 18th.
