PORTLAND Mr. Peter E. Richard, 72, of Portland, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough. Peter was born on December 4, 1942 in Fairfield, ME, to the late Edmond and Eleanor (Murphy) Richard. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School, and attended 2 years of college in Cambridge, MA. Mr. Richard honorably served his country in the United States Navy, entering the service at the age of 17. Following his service to our country, Peter began working for New England Telephone Company where he was employed for over 30 years before retiring to spend time with his wife and family. Peter enjoyed hiking through the White Mountains, fishing, birdwatching, and he was a big Patriots fan, as well as a Maine Mariners fan. In addition, Peter was known for his carpentry skills, often making furniture for his relatives and friends. He took pride in being the neighborhood grandfather, and was always willing to help his neighbors. Peter is predeceased by his beloved wife of 42 years, Sharon Lee Richard. In addition, he is predeceased by his sister, Lucie Taylor and nephew, Nathan Taylor. Peter is survived by his daughter, Susan Richard of Denver, CO; son, Timothy Richard and wife Jena of Portland; and nephews, Donald Taylor and his wife Jennifer of Portland, and Christopher Taylor and his wife Shelley of Bath. Also survived by several extended family members. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 4-7PM at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. Josephs Church, Stevens Ave., Portland.
