South Portland-Peter Vaughan Parsons, 84, passed away on January 30, 2019. He had been dealing with several health issues over the past several years.
Peter was born in Presque Isle, Maine on November 9, 1934, the youngest son of Vaughan and Margaret Parsons. He graduated from Presque Isle High School and attended several post-secondary programs, including one at Colby College. He served in the United States Army. He worked at the Washburn Trust Company in Washburn, ME where he developed many close friends and associates.
Peter loved spending time with his beloved family and friends. He had a special fondness for Portage Lake in Portage, Maine, Frenchman's Bay, and Penobscot Bay. He loved classical music and books. In his younger days he loved biking the country roads of Presque Isle, skiing at Mars Hill and skating on the frozen rivers and lakes of Aroostook County.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles Parsons and Storer Parsons; sisters-in-law, Elaine Parsons, Pauline Parsons; and brother-in-law, Neil Sawyer. He is survived by his sister, Sarah Sawyer of South Portland; cousins, Alan Boone of Bangor, Gary Boone of Presque Isle; nephews, Richard Sawyer of South Portland, Charles "Bud" Parsons of Durham; nieces, Margaret Sawyer of West Roxbury MA, Louise Elefante of Boston MA, Elizabeth Cutler of South Portland, Mary Hallowell of Bangor, Linda Paquette of Wells, VT, Judy Houghton of Manchester, VT, and Susan Antell of Williston, VT as well as many grand nephews, nieces and great grand nephews and nieces. He will also be deeply missed by his many close friends from his days growing up in Presque Isle as well as others who have become friends more recently.
A celebration of Peter's life will be held at St Alban's Episcopal Church, 885 Shore Rd., Cape Elizabeth, at 11:00am on Friday, February 8, 2019 with a reception to follow at the church. Peter Vaughn Parsons Peter was a kindly, quiet soul. He devoted many years to the care of his Mother, our Aunt Margaret, before they moved to Bangor. His sister, Sally is now our one remaining first cousin. Rest in Peace, Peter. — Gary
