Peter A. Leahan
November 4, 1943 ~ November 11, 2019
Standish - Peter Alden Leahan, 76, passed away unexpectedly on November 11, 2019, at Maine Medical Center. Peter was born in Westbrook on November 4, 1943, the son of Newton J. and Irene G. (Roy) Leahan.
Peter attended Westbrook schools and was a graduate of Westbrook High School, Class of 1962. After he graduated high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served in active duty from 1962 - 1963, which he was very proud of. If you knew Peter and how patriotic he was, you could have probably heard him say "always faithful, Semper Fi," on occasion.
On December 6, 1969, Peter married the love of his life, Marilyn Williams and they shared almost 50 years together. Marilyn referred to her and Peter as "Mutt and Jeff" due to his height and her lack of height, all out of love though. Together they had two children, Stephen and Stephanie.
Peter had a passion for family gatherings, such as July 4th and Christmas. He just enjoyed those times with his family, notably his grandchildren. When Peter wasn't spending time with his family, you could find him swimming in the pool in the summer, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers on fall Sunday's or going to hunting camp with his friends Ricky and Danny. He was also a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW of Westbrook respectively.
Peter is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his son, Stephen Leahan and his wife Alicia; daughter, Stephanie and her husband Israel Rodriguez; his grandchildren, Shaylah, Hunter, Kendra and Kaden; his brother, Thomas Leahan; brother-in-law, Russell Williams and his wife Bonnie; his niece, Stacey Abbott and his two nephews, Dwayne and Russ Williams.
A graveside service Celebrating Peter's life will be held at 12 PM on Monday. November 18, 2019 at Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland. I spent hours playing basketball with Peter when we were in grade and JR high school, walking the railroad tracks, going to the westbrook community swimming pool….just being friends….I left westbrook after 8th grade, met up with Peter 30 years later and it’s was like we never missed a day…he was special to me…
