Peter Drivas

SOUTH PORTLAND - Peter Drivas, 81, of South Portland passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Peter was born on August 23, 1930 in Saco, Maine; the son of Spiros and Speradula Drivas. He attended Thornton Academy and the University of Maine at Orono with a Bachelor's of Business Administration. Peter served his country for two years in the United States Marine Corps where he attained the rank of Lieutenant, and later obtained the rank of Captain in the Reserves. Upon completion of service, he attended Columbia University where he received his Master's in Business Administration. Peter served positions in Alcoa, Maremont, Honeycomb Systems, South Portland Shipyard, and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. In his retirement, he worked at Hadlock Field for the Portland Sea Dogs. Peter was involved in numerous organizations throughout his life including the South Portland-Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club, Portland Boys Club Alumni, Mercy Hospital, VNA and Delta Todd Delta. Peter had a zest for living and enjoyed traveling, boating, running, dining out, and spending time with family and friends. Peter was a loving father and grandfather, and will be missed by many. Peter is survived by his wife, Dolores Amergian Drivas; his three children, Pamela McTigue, Ross Drivas and Matthew Drivas; his two grandchildren, Samantha Drivas and Michael McTigue; his sister, Georgia Latti and numerous nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 20th at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Trisagion service will be held at 6:00 p.m. A 10:00 a.m. funeral service will be held Friday, October 21st at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Pleasant Street, Portland. Burial will follow in Forest City Cemetery, South Portland. The family is grateful for all the wonderful care that he received, with special thanks to Michelle, Lisa, Amie, Shawn, LaDonna and Disa.
