Peter C. Collins, 78, of Acton, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 31, 1946, to Charles and Helen (Pitts) Collins in Watertown, Massachusetts, where he grew up and attended local schools.
Peter had a distinctive career. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and dedicated 22 years of service. He was also employed at New England Telephone for many years and was a retiree from both.
He also served briefly in the National Guard Reserves.
Peter enjoyed his father-son fishing trips to Maine in previous years and was able to retire on Mousam Lake. There, he built lasting friendships with his neighbors and embraced a peaceful life filled with fishing, hunting, and tinkering with boats and cars. A mellow and easygoing man, Peter was always willing to lend a hand to those in need, earning him a special place in the hearts of those who new him.
Peter was predeceased by his wives, Carole (Leland) Collins and Patricia Halnen Collins; his brother Charles "Big Pete" who died as a boy, his sister, Barbara Pacione; and his brothers, Shawn and Constance Collins.
He is survived by his son, Peter Collins Jr., and his partner, Brenda Thomas, of Newton, MA; his daughter, Catherine Palmer, of Acton; and his stepchildren, Jennifer Halnen of Carver, MA, Robert Halnen of Plymouth, MA, Elizabeth Gallagher of Florida, and John Halnen of Marion, MA, a sister Susan Cunningham of Plymouth, MA and a brother Michael Collins of Naples, Florida.
Peter’s gentle spirit and willingness to help others will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.
