Pauline M. Mercier
Pauline M. Mercier, 78, of Springvale, died in Sanford on December 16, 2006.Pauline was born in Sanford on March 18, 1928 to Edward and Grace Johnson Hevey. She attended local school and graduated from Sanford High School in 1946. She worked for 12 years for American Cyanamid (Cyro) and then worked 19 years for Sprague Electric before retiring in 1988. After Pauline retired, she worked part-time for several years at the Acton Trading Post in Shapleigh. Working at the trading post gave her something to keep herself busy as well as come into contact with a lot of different people. She was a very people oriented person with many friends.Mrs. Mercier was a communicant of Notre Dame Church in Springvale and had been active in the Emblem Club in the past. She was a sports enthusiast and particularly loved watching the Red Sox and the Patriots. As a younger woman, she got a lot of enjoyment out of going bowling. Recently, Pauline had spent a lot of time tending to the flowers on the graves of her friends and family at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Family was the most important thing in Pauline's life. She got great joy out of spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and made it a point to know what was going on in each one of their lives. She was always interested to hear the results of any of their sporting events or extracurricular activities. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Pauline was predeceased by her husband, Edward, her children, Paul and Janice and her siblings, Robert Andrew, Paul, Olga and Rita.Surviving are her son, John Mercier and his wife Claudette of Sanford; her daughter-in-law, Denise Mercier of Connecticut; three grandchildren, Melissa Robbins and her husband Andrew of Lyman, James Mercier of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Amy Bourgine and her husband Tony of Utah and three great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, Maryland 20814 or Wentworth Homecare Hospice, 113 New Rochester Road, Suite # 4, Dover, New Hampshire, 03820.
