Pauline A. Herrick
Pauline Alice Hill Herrick, 83, of Biddeford passed away on Tuesday, June 29th in Biddeford at the Southern Maine Medical Center. Mrs. Herrick was born on July 5, 1926 to Mr. and Mrs. Alton Hill in Sanford, Maine. Mrs. Herrick was a long time resident of the southern Maine area as well as Stratford, CT in her early life. She moved from Stratford to Old Orchard Beach, Maine with her four children in the early 1960's.Pauline operated a daycare center out of her home in Biddeford for much of her life, where she was known and loved by many. She touched so many lives with the great care she gave to the children that were entrusted with her. Parents of the children she cared for always felt secure knowing that they could go to work and not ever worry about their children knowing that they were in good hands with Pauline. She still kept in touch with some of the children she had cared for, now adults, even up until her death. She loved all children and she never forgot a name of any of those that she cared for over the years and there were many. She was a monumental animal lover, owning many cats over the years, specifically Mickey and Blondie that were very special to her. If a stray cat came to her door, it had found its new permanent home with her. She was a fantastic cook, a skill she learned when she was young working in private kitchens in Fairfield and Greenfield Hill, CT. But most of all she was a loving and giving mother, grandmother and a wonderful friend to all who were fortunate to come to know her. Pauline is survived by three daughters, Joan, Susan and Paula; two sisters, Hazel and Marguerite; five grandchildren, and her very close and special friends, Cheryl and Christie Gerrish who were always there for her, especially in her final days. She was pre-deceased by her husband James Herrick, an infant son, a daughter, Linda, who passed away in 2005, and a sister, Barbara Hill. A Graveside Service for Mrs. Herrick will be held on Monday, July 5 at 10AM at the Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com
