Paul D. Lemire, 98, of Sanford, died at his home on January 3, 2016.Paul was born on June 23, 1917 to Archie and Evelyn (Liberty) Lemire in Sanford where he grew up and attended local schools. In 1938 he married Ethel Ainsworth and together they raised three sons and shared 72 years of marriage until her death in 2010.Paul proudly served his country in the Navy Seabees during World War II. After completing his military service he worked for many years as a painter. In 1966 he went to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he stayed for 16 years until he retired in 1982. Paul was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. When his sons were young he had served as a Boy Scout leader. He was also a member of the American Legion and had been the oldest living member of the Sanford First Baptist Church. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Paul was predeceased by his wife, Ethel I. Lemire.Surviving are three sons, Keith Lemire and his wife Sherry of Alfred, Bruce Lemire of Colorado and Ronald Lemire of Sanford; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 19th at the Sanford First Baptist Church located at 905 Main Street in Sanford.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
