Old Orchard – Paul E. Caron, 74, passed away on June 11, 2025, with his sister Renee by his side in Scarborough. Paul was born on January 6, 1951, in Marietta, OH, son of the late Florian Caron and Barbara (Sherry) Beaudoin.

Paul graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1968. A talented drummer, he played in his high school band, “Mynd Garden,” which was a regular feature at school dances. His passion for music continued throughout his life—he lived in Montreal for several years playing drums in a band and later worked and performed at South Seas Plantation in Florida. A gifted jazz musician, Paul was known for his complex, skillful drumming and deep love of the genre.

Later in life, Paul helped his mother to care for and manage the summer rental apartments she owned in Old Orchard Beach. He enjoyed the local scene there, soaking up the sun at the beach and embracing the easy rhythm of coastal life.

I will not willingly offend,

Nor be easily offended;

What’s amiss I’ll strive to mend,

And endure what can’t be mended. – Isaac Watts

Paul is survived by his sister, Renee and her husband James Whelan; nephew, Ryan Whelan; niece, Grace Whelan; Aunt, Sonya (Caron) Turcotte; and many other extended family members

  1. Rip, sweet Paul. And so many thank yous for turning me onto jazz, way back in the 1980″s. Bang those drums in heaven.

  2. Paul “Shades” Caron, was the drummer and eternal cool cat, In our Band ‘The Throttles” from 1994-2005. Never without his shades on or off stage. He was a bit of a prima donna, showing up hours early to badger the light guy for magenta spots on his pristine white kit. In retaliation, the crew would blast a yellow halogen right in his face, leaving him blinded and sweating through the first set. We’d crack up from the wings, but Paul powered through like a pro. His beats drove our southern rock soul, and those shades? They hid a heart of gold. I am now the last surviving member of The Throttles.

    Paul, Kelly, J.R.

    —you were my brothers, my band, my chaos. The stages are quieter, but your spirits live on in every faded tattoo and broken string. Thanks for the memories, the mishaps, and the music. If this resonates, share your Throttles stories below. Rock on, friends. 🎸❤️ #TheThrottles #LostBrotherhood #SouthernRock #SpinalTapMoments
