Paul E. Cote
Paul E. Cote, 83, of Springvale, died April 30 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a long illness.He was born in Sanford on June 17, 1925, a son of Amede and Alma (Garneau) Cote.Paul was employed with the former Goodall-Sanford Textile Mills, then after they closed worked in a local shoe shop and a mill in Somersworth. He then was employed for over 30 years with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring as a foreman in 1985.He was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish at Notre Dame Church in Springvale and was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree.Paul enjoyed working on his computer and with it compiled an extensive and impressive genealogy linking over 100,000 names. This was a huge hobby for him and he spent many hours at the Springvale Public Library doing research.His family recalled that he was a kind and loving father and grandfather whose first priorities in life were home and family.He was predeceased by a son, Daniel L. Cote in 1997 and by a sister Yvette Cloutier also in 1997.Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Margaret (Trottier) Cote of Springvale, his son the Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, D.D. of Norwich, CT, his daughter Susanne C. Sladen and her husband Mark of Saco, his son Mark P. Cote and his wife Theresa of Springvale, his daughter Ann Marie Flory and her husband Stanley of Voorhees, NJ, his son Louis W. Cote and his wife Lynn of Tequesta, FL, his brother Albert Cote of Sanford, his brother Patrick Cote and his wife Beatrice of Sanford, 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford on Sunday from 4-8 PM.A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish at Notre Dame Church in Springvale with the Most Rev. Michael R. Cote as principal celebrant. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale.The family wishes to extend its appreciation to the staffs of the SCU and IMC units at Maine Medical Center and to the staff of the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for the extraordinary care and love shown to Paul and to them during these past few weeks.Condolences may be expressed at the Condolences tab at left.
