Resided in:
Gorham, Maine
Patrick "Joe" Lowery, Jr., a lifelong resident of Portland, Maine, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024. Born on October 19, 1936, to the late Patrick and Anne Lowery, Joe grew up on Munjoy Hill and attended Cathedral School. He graduated from Cheverus High School in 1954, where he was known for his skills on the basketball court.
Joe was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. After graduating, he dedicated his career to supporting his family through his work at Nissans Bakery. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Parks) Lowery, and they shared many wonderful years together until her passing in 2021.
A simple man at heart, Joe required very little in life to be happy. He enjoyed spending time golfing at Riverside with his buddies and was a familiar face on the green. Known for his famous saying, "It was a good day if your name wasn’t in the obituaries," Joe had a steady, easy-going nature that endeared him to everyone he met.
Joe was family-oriented and always made sure to visit his mother after church. He cherished his time with his family, especially the Saturday night dinners and coffee catch-ups. Despite his independent nature, he made sure everyone knew they were loved by him.
In addition to his love for golf, Joe enjoyed traveling and experiencing new places. He was a devoted father to his children: Ruth Daigler and her husband David of Old Orchard Beach, Lisa Whitmore and her husband William of Scarborough, and Jay Lowery and his wife Kathy of Cumberland. He was also a proud grandfather to Bill Kimball, Meghan Seekins and her husband Tom, Connor Daigler and wife Macie, Tyler Daigler and wife Taylor, Emily Richard and her husband Rob, Caroline Nolan and husband Weston, Jamie Piacentini and her husband Ryan, Jeanna Lowery, and John Lowery, Jr. and his wife Wendy, as well as many great-grandchildren who affectionately called him "Grampy Joe."
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the Gorham House and Compassus Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion. Services will be private, and arrangements are under the direction of Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of Portland.
Joe's legacy of love, simplicity, and family devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
