Patrick J. Feeney

Patrick Joseph Feeney, 94, of Westbrook, died Monday, August 3, 2015 at Maine Veterans Home, Scarborough. Patrick was born in Portland on January 18, 1921, to the late Michael and Delia Feeney of County Galway, Ireland. He attended St. Dominics grade School and graduated from Cheverus High School with the Class of 1939. He later attended Shaws Business College. In the fall of 1942, Patrick enlisted in the United States Navy. He was issued his Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Certificate in January 1944 and was advanced to Pharmacist Mate 1st Class the following March. In July, Patrick was transferred to the 2nd Marine Division and sailed from Pearl Harbor to Eniwetok Atoll, Marshal Islands, and on to Saipan, Marianas where he was assigned to Company A, 2nd Medical Battalion. He arrived in Okinawa in April 1945 to participate in the operations against Japanese forces. Patrick was among the first troops to participate in the American Occupation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Upon Patricks honorable discharge in January 1946, he returned to Portland. He started work as a clerk for the Boston-Maine Railroad, where he met the love of his life, Barbara. Together, they shared 66 years and 10 months. In 1948, Patrick moved to California, soon to be joined by his bride, to pursue a career with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, Los Angeles plant. He served in a variety of positions throughout the years, leading up to Superintendent of Production and Scheduling, West Coast Division. Patrick retired in 1982. Patrick and Barbara returned to the Portland area in the fall of 2004 to join their daughter, Patricia and other close family members. Patrick is predeceased by his sister, Mary Feeney Morais, and his brother, James Feeney. In addition to his loving wife, Patrick is survived by his daughter, Patricia Valley and husband David of Windham. Also survived by his sisters, Ellen Lombardi of South Portland, Katherine Conroy and husband Fred of Lexington, MA; brother, John Feeney and wife Patty of N.C. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday from 9:30AM-10:30AM at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. An 11AM Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St.Anthony of Padua (St.Hyacinth Church), 268 Brown St., Westbrook. Burial to follow at St. Hyacinth Cemetery, Westbrook.
