PORTLAND, MAINE - Patricia M. St. John, 74, of Portland, formerly of South Portland and New York, died Tuesday Jan. 29, 2013. She was born in Mechanicville, a daughter of Archibald and Martha Miller Nelson. Patricia was a graduate of Mechanicville High School and she attended a vocational school for nursing. She was an LPN, who worked mostly in nursing homes in New York. In 1982 she moved to Maine and continued to work in the field of nursing, providing home care for Lillian "Molly" Buck from 1986 thru 1995. During this time, Patricia was became Molly's traveling companion. Together they visited Mexico, Alaska, and the Mayan Ruins. She fulfilled her dream vacation which included a tour of Egypt, Cairo, Israel, and Syria. Patricia was an excellent cook. She loved animals and often visited the Saratoga Battlefield wither daughter Trish to watch the deer at sunset. Spending time with her grandchildren was always a pleasure. Patricia loved Maine and the trips to Peaks Island. She had a great sense of humor. She is predeceased by her parents and a son Lawrence Stanley Smith. Patricia is survived by two daughters, Lisa Smith of Portland, Trish St. John of South Portland; a brother, Jack Nelson and wife Suzanne of Rensselaer, New York; a daughter-in-law, Christine Sweet Smith of Portland; six granddaughters, Madeline, Stacia, Michelle, Jacqueline, Scarlett, Alexandra; two great grandsons, Adam, Aidan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Federal Street, Portland. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, South Portland.Online condolences may be expressed below.
