Patricia A. Baldwin
Patricia A. "Pat" Baldwin, 80, of Sanford, died on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.Pat was born on June 21, 1938 to Harold and Marion (Dowbridge) Baldwin in Sanford where she grew up and attended local schools. She was a graduate of both Nasson College and the Maine Medical Center School of Medical Technology in 1960. She held several jobs during her working life including working in the Pathology and Research Department at Maine Medical Center, at the Foundation for Blood Research in Scarborough and finally at Demers Laboratory in Springvale where she was employed before becoming the owner. While she owned Demers Laboratory they became the third water testing lab in the state to receive national accreditation on the first round.Pat was a very civic minded woman and was involved in several organizations in the community. She served on the Mousam Lake Region Association Board for over 20 years and wrote the booklet "Mousam Lake needs Your Help." She served on the Acton Shapleigh Youth Conservation Board, on many Town of Shapleigh boards including the Zoning Board of Appeals for over 20 years, the Fair Hearing Authority Board and the Abatement and Assessment Review Board. She was a 50 year member of Ruth Chapter #4 Order of the Eastern Star and served on the boards of the Nasson College Alumni Association and the Nasson Community Center. Pat was the recipient of many recognitions and awards for her service including receiving the Maine Audubon Citizens Scientist Recognition for 20 years of loon counting in 2003, the York County Soil and Water Conservation Districts Watershed Steward of the Year Award in 2004, the Lake Smart Award from the Maine DEP in 2004, the National EPA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008, credited with removing Mousam from the "lake at risk" list, the Nasson College Hall of Fame Award in 2008 and the Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program 2009 Service Award. Pat loved Mousam Lake and the people around it and spent countless hours over the years working to keep it a beautiful place. She will be remembered as a dedicated and feisty woman who was devoted to serving her community and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Surviving are her niece, Linda Haley and her two children, Kim and Chris of Colorado and her nephew, Alan Goodrich and his wife Donna and their children, Tyler and Greg of Springvale.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 29th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale.
