Ovila A. Dumas
Ovila A. Dumas, 88, of Springvale, died on August 20, 2009 at H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Ovila was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec on December 1, 1920 to Wilfred and Arthemise Couture Dumas. He grew up in Rhode Island and attended local schools. Ovila served in the U.S. Army in World War II. After completing his enlistment, he moved to Sanford where he raised three children. Ovila and a business partner owned and operated their own plastering company for several years until he went to work for Rickett Brothers in Portland. He was employed there doing plastering work until his retirement. Ovila was a member of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish Sanford/Springvale. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing and going on day trips to various places. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Surviving are a daughter, Connie Sylvester and her husband Mike of Manchester, NH; two sons, Roger Dumas and his wife Joyce of Alfred and Raymond Dumas and his wife Karen of Springvale; two sisters, Dorothy and Lillian; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 25th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, St. Ignatius Church in Sanford.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.Arrangements are under the directions of Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home in Sanford.To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
