Robert G. Normand, 89, of Sanford, died on Friday, April, 14th at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford with his family by his side.Robert was born on March 20, 1928 to Arthur and Bernadette (Gosselin) Normand in Sanford where he grew up and attended local schools. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1950 he married Rita Tardiff and together they shared 66 years of marriage and raised two daughters. Robert was employed for many years at Hussey Seating in North Berwick until his retirement at the age of 55. He was a devout Catholic and had been a communicant of St Therse of Lisieux Parish.Robert was a quiet man who enjoyed spending time at home with his family and working around his house. He could often be found sitting in his chair where he would read several newspapers each day. When he was younger he and his wife owned a camp on Mousam Lake where they would enjoy the summers with their daughters. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and singing French songs for his grandchildren when they were young. Robert will be remembered as a kind and loving man who was devoted to his family. He will be dearly missed.Surviving are his wife, Rita Normand of Sanford; two daughters, Claire Bourassa and her husband Richard of Sanford and Patricia Michaud and her husband Steven of Sanford; four grandchildren, Rebecca McCann and her husband Todd of Sanford, Johnathan Michaud and his wife Stephanie of Lebanon, Jeffery Bourassa and his wife Jocelyn of Yarmouth and Jason Michaud and his wife Yvonne of Sanford and five great-grandchildren, Tanner, Zoey, Robert, Jack and Eden.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18th from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 noon at St Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church located on Payne Street in Springvale. Interment will be at a later date at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to St. Thomas School, 69 North Avenue, Sanford, Maine 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
