Natalie Hoag

January 8, 1934 ~ January 30, 2026

Natalie Rovene (Marriner) Hoag, 92, a long-time resident of Springvale, Maine, passed away on January 30, 2026 at Gorham House. She was born in Belfast, Maine on January 8, 1934 to Winfield A. Marriner, Sr. and Mildred (Trask) Marriner.

Natalie graduated from Crosby High School of Belfast in 1952 and from Nasson College of Springvale, Maine in 1955. Nasson College is where she met and fell in love with William W. Hoag from Burlington, Vermont. Nat and Bill were married on December 29, 1956. Bill became employed by Nasson College in 1958 and in September of 1959 they moved into the ‘big white farmhouse’ on Beaver Hill Road, Springvale, where they lived and raised their family.

Natalie was very creative. She was a very passionate and talented painter. She enjoyed painting seascapes, birch trees in the winter and flowers. She painted with watercolors and oils. She also was a very good cook and loved to sew.

When her three children were in school, she worked part-time for Ashley Public Relations. She was a dedicated member of the Nasson College Alumni Association Board; assisted in the development of the Nasson Heritage Center; and spent many hours volunteering at alumni association events. She was also on the Board of the Oldtimers’ Shop in Sanford.

She had a soft spot in her heart for little children and loved doing activities with the preschoolers at Gorham House and loved to watch them play. When her own children were young she volunteered her time and creativity to help with the children’s classes and programs at the First Baptist Church.

Family was the center of Natalie’s life. When her daughters married and moved away, she and Bill made several trips to Arkansas and Indiana to visit them and their grandchildren. She cherished the time spent with her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in both musical and sporting events. She touched many lives with her generosity and wonderful sense of humor. Natalie will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Natalie was predeceased by her parents and her older brother, Winfield A. Marriner, Jr. Sadly, Bill, the love of Natalie’s life, lost his battle with lung cancer in 2009 at the age of 75. Survivors include her younger brother, M. Brent Marriner and wife, Sandee, of Wells, Maine; her three children and their spouses, Michael Hoag and Tina of Alfred, Maine; Cathryn Wagner and Brent of Valparaiso, Indiana; and Laurie Normand and Philip of Orono, Maine. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and their spouses (listed oldest to youngest): Jeffrey and Amanda Normand, Sarah Hoag, Julie Normand and Cory Davis, Joseph and Carol Hoag, Gretchen Wagner, James Normand, Ingrid Wagner and Ella Wagner; and 2 great-granddaughters: Amelia and Olivia Normand. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Natalie’s family is extremely grateful for the care that she received from the Windsor 1, Gorham House staff and from her team at Hospice of Southern Maine.

A memorial service to celebrate Natalie’s remarkable life will be held in the Spring. Arrangements are under the direction of Black-Heald Walker Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, P.O. Box 175, Springvale. Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
