N. Pearl Higgins
N. Pearl Higgins, 91, of Sanford, died after a brief illness on June 22, 2013 at Hillcrest Gardens in Sanford. Mrs. Higgins was born in Sangerville, Maine on March 6, 1922, a daughter of Elwood Guy Grant and Rose Della Lent Grant and attended Sangerville schools. Mrs. Higgins worked at the dry cleaners in Dover-Foxcroft and Dexter, Maine. She was also employed as a housekeeper at the Blethen House in Dover-Foxcroft before moving to Eliot, Maine and assuming the head housekeeper position at the Portsmouth Inn after the death of her husband of 41 years, Percy D. Higgins. She spent several years in Leesville, Louisiana with her late son, Harold P. Higgins, and wife Beverly before returning to Maine to be near her daughters Linda and Bonnie who doted on her until her death. Mrs. Higgins loved her family, warts and all. She immensely enjoyed crocheting until her eyes and fingers gave out. She often made tablecloths and doilies which have become treasured family heirlooms. Mrs. Higgins was famous for her pastries and most of all, for her delicious fudge. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Higgins was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Percy D. Higgins, her son, Harold P. Higgins, her granddaughter, Robin Wilson, six sisters, Elsie, Dorothy, Helen, Mary-Alice, Gloria, Norma and two brothers, Little Elwood & Dana.Surviving are three daughters, Marion Adams of Mattawamkeag, Linda Perigo of Sanford, and Bonnie Lambert of Sanford; two sons, Richard Higgins of Arrowsic and Larry Higgins of Sidney; many grandchildren, great-grand children and several great-great grandchildren and her brother, Donald of Dover-Foxcroft.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 26th at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
