Milton L. Daney, 91, of Waterboro, died September 24 at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a brief illness.He was born in Alfred on December 20, 1914, a son of Frank A. and Elsie (Scott) Daney, and attended Alfred schools.As a young man, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He then owned and operated M. L. Daney Excavating. For 22 years, he served as the postmaster for the Waterboro post office, retiring in 1979.Mr. Daney was an active member of his community. He was a 60 year member of the Brown Emmons Post #134 American Legion in Alfred, was a 55 year member of the Fraternal Masonic Lodge in Alfred, a 59 year member of the Waterboro Grange, a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a longtime member of the E. Waterboro Odd Fellows Lodge, a longtime member of the Waterboro Fire Department, and he served on various town committees in Waterboro, including serving as the road commissioner.He was an army air corps veteran of World War II.Mr. Daney enjoyed fishing, camping and snowmobiling. He had been a CB operator using the handle of Uncle Miltie. He was a member of the Bush Pilot Model Airplane Club.He was predeceased by a son, Nelson Daney and by a brother Raymond Daney.Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Doris G. (Laskey) Daney of Sanford, 3 daughters, Carol A. MacDonald and her husband Douglas of Wilmot, NH, Dianne Holden and her husband Donald of Waterboro, Nancy Brandt and her husband Richard of Waterboro, a brother, Stanley Daney of Alfred, 7 grandchildren, Kristine Holden, Kerry MacDonald, Dustin Holden, Melissa Daigneault, Darcy Cook, Amy Lucarelli, Andrew MacDonald and 5 great grandchildren.A graveside service with military honors will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 AM in Pine Grove Cemetery in South Waterboro. Memorial contributions may be made to Goodall Elder Care Pavilion Activities Program, 35 July Street, Sanford, ME 04073.
