South Portland- Michael J. Sanphy II, 47, of Elderberry Drive, passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of April 24, 2023 following a 14 month battle with Cancer.
Michael was born on January 20, 1976 in Westbrook, Maine to Michael Sanphy and Sherry O’Donal-Sanphy. Michael received his GED in 1995 and immediately started his career in construction and towing industry. His current jobs included Rigby Storage as a container delivery driver and tow truck driver and manager of Maietta Towing Company.
In 2003, Mike met his wife, Angela Maietta in Scarborough while working for her family’s business. They shared four children together and have raised and shared custody of their two grandchildren.
Mike could always be found helping teach fellow tow operators easy and helpful ways to complete jobs. He could always be heard cracking joke after joke and always preferred to be hanging out with his kids and the many nieces, nephews and special children in who he had a hand in raising. Never scared to feed and burp a baby doll with his niece Mila, there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for anyone at any moment. If you knew Mike, you were proud to be his friend.
Mike was predeceased by his mother, Sherrie O’Donal-Sanphy, who he had the pleasure of caring for in his home during her short fight with cancer, in 2011; grandparents, Anna O’Donal and Peggy Sanphy; his “future son in law”, Kevin Mahoney, who he loved and adored, on March 5, 2023; father in law, Louis Maietta. He is survived by his loving wife, Angela Maietta Sanphy of South Portland; their children Dylan Sanphy, Dominic Sanphy, Hannah Freeman, and Alyssa Freeman all of South Portland; grandchildren, Maezy and Crosby Baez of South Portland; his father, Michael and his wife, Cheryl Sanphy of Westbrook; two sisters, Jackie and her husband, Bob Shane of Windham, Amy Sanphy of Woolwich; brother Ryan Sanphy of Westbrook; step sisters, Lisa Glidden and Marcie Flores; mother in law, Jane Maietta of South Portland; sister in law, Sandra and her husband, Matt Marks of South Portland; sister in law, Jenna and her husband, Dave Tremberth of South Portland.
The family would like to thank the following people who were a constant support for Mike during his illness, Robbie Maietta, Adam Hurtubise, Kathy Savage, Phil Brackett and Mario Gorham.
