Portland- Michael F. Burger Nealand, 58, of Danforth Street, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Mercy Hospital with his loving family by his side due to complications from a long battle with alcoholism. Michael was born in Portland, Maine on June 8, 1956 the son of the late John F. and Theresa C. Castonguay Nealand. He attended local schools including Deering High School. He enlisted and served in the United States Army. Michael worked as laborer and was a familiar face on the Portland waterfront fishing from several different boats. In his spare time Michael enjoyed drawing and was an amazing artist. He loved being surrounded by his many friends and was known for having a huge heart. Michael suffered from respiratory and heart problems as a result from his life long battle with alcoholism, which he was never able to beat, but did not allow to dampen his spirit. Michael was predeceased by two brothers John F. Nealand Jr. and Paul A. Nealand. He is survived by six sisters Gail and her husband Ray Monahan of Windham, Anne Marie Dillon of Portland, Patricia A. Nealand of Portland, Mary Theresa and Thomas Calder of Portland, Kathleen Nealand of LA and Judith Larsen of Windham; a brother Raymond T. Nealand of AL along with many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 10:00-12:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. A service will follow at 12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
