Maurice J. Dion, 87, of Lyman passed away on Sunday July 26, 2015 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. He was born in Springvale, on April 8, 1928 one of 13 children to Alice Blanchette and John Dion.He married Cecile Petrin in November of 1952, and settled in Biddeford. Together they had 10 children. He was a paratrooper with the 81st Airborne from 1950-52. Maurice worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard from 1952 to 1969 where he was a loftsman, building life-sized templates of the nuclear submarines. In 1964 they purchased the old Siliker's restaurant and 8 log cabins in Arundel at the corner of Log Cabin Road and Route 1 and built the Lamppost Cabins and Campground. Later he added a mobile home park to the property. He also was a real estate broker and developer in the southern Maine area during the 1970s, operating as Lamppost Realty.He was an avid tennis player and golfer and played a great deal at Dutch Elm Golf Course. He built a home at Clearview Estates in Arundel, and loved to walk over to the 18th fairway after work. As a young man he played for the Springvale Twilighters, an American Legion team in 1948. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts when his sons were scouts, and often had baked bean fundraisers on the Log Cabin Road property. He is predeceased by his parents, Alice and John Dion, his siblings Jeannette Guillemette, Florence Dion, Jean Dion, Cecile Manning, Roland Dion, Pauline Bourque, Donald Dion, and Lucille Laflamme. He is survived by his siblings Albert Dion, Theresa Couture, Rita Legere, all of Sanford, ME, and Maryann Edrington of San Diego, CA, as well as his children: Michael Dion of Waltham, MA, Jeanne Nielsen and Ron Dion, both of Lyman, Bob Dion of Arundel, Denise Sullivan of Kennebunk, Diane Dion Meepradit of Old Orchard Beach, Arlene Borg of Purcellville, VA, Janice Russo of Albany, NY, Cathy Cyr of Newnan, GA, and Gayle Dion of Waterboro, as well as 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 29, at 10 am at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Catholic Church in Springvale. Burial with military honors will follow at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale.
