PORTLAND - Maureen Ann Kane, age 57, passed away February 23rd, 2012, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough surrounded by her loving family. Maureen died the way she lived, with grace, dignity, and faith. She was born on January 26, 1955, in Syracuse, New York, a daughter of William Thomas and Mary Patricia Martin O'Donnell. Maureen attended parochial schools and was a 1973 graduate of Mercy High School in Baltimore, Maryland, and was a 1977 graduate of Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. Maureen continued her career at Ventrex Laboratories working as a Research and Development Technician, and later worked for Wellcare of New England. Maureen was currently working at Idexx Laboratories where she had been for the past 18 years. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and willingness to support those in need were truly remarkable. Her laugh, known to all but describable by none, had the ability to surprise and transform a room, regardless of size. Maureen loved the family vacations at Pat and John's camp on Frye Island, and the Sebago Lake State Park. She never seemed happier or more at home than when swimming in Sebago Lake. I worked with Maureen at IDEXX for the last five years and she taught me a lot: how to do what you love, how to do things well, and how to go after your passions in life. She made me a pair of earrings last summer and I will make sure to cherish those forever. Rest in peace, Maureen. Tom, Ethan, and Jimmy… my condolences to you.

I had the privilege of knowing Maureen while teaching her son James at Casco Bay High School. She was the kind of parent that valued the hard work needed in schools. If it takes a village to educate young people, or do anything of value, then Maureen should be remembered for her caring and generosity. My thoughts go out to her family.

To the O’Donnell/Kane family, Please accept my condolences on the passing of Maureen. I have many fond memories at Sebago Lake and Baltimore laughing and just living the moment with Maureen, Tom and family. I loved Maureen for she was so easy to be with. I send to you the Native American Prayer that my family adopted and we read when my Mom and Colleen Supinski 09/11/2001 departed this world – Hope that it may bring you some comfort. Love P I give you this one thought to keep – I am with you still – I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not think of me as gone – I am with you still – in each new dawn. NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER
