Sanford - Mary A. Kowalski, 75, formerly of Highland Park, New Jersey, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011 with her daughter, Mary, by her side. She was cared for and faced the challenges of Parkinson's disease with her daughter's dedicated love.She was born in Montclair, New Jersey on November 10, 1935, a twin daughter to Leon and Mary Mahan Schweitzer. The family moved to Highland Park when Mary was in the second grade.Mary married John Kowalski on June 2, 1962 in St. Paul's Church in Highland Park. Together they made their home there for many years and raised their two children, John A. Kowalski, Jr. and Mary K. Kowalski. She graduated from St. Peters High School in New Brunswick and later went to secretarial school. She worked as an administrative secretary in various departments at the Borough of Highland Park for many years. She and her daughter moved to Maine in 1999 after her retirement.Mary enjoyed her trips with friends to Atlantic City as well as to the theater on Broadway. She volunteered with various senior groups and the Lobster Festival while she lived in Rockland, Maine.She was predeceased by her husband who died on May 10, 1988 and son in September, 1990. She is survived by her daughter Mary with whom she lived for the past year. Other surviving relatives include a twin brother, nieces and nephews in Georgia, North Carolina, Colorado, and New Jersey.A private burial service will be held on November 11, 2011 at Resurrection Cemetery in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to organizations dedicated to researching Parkinson's disease.Arrangements are under the direction of Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale.
