CAPE ELIZABETH - Mary C. Fox, 88, a longtime resident of Cape Elizabeth, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2014 at the South Portland Nursing Home with her loving family by her side. She will always be remembered with a smile for her singing, piano playing, love of all things sweet, and her contagious happiness. She was born on December 6, 1925 in Portland, the daughter of Thomas and Anne (Loftus) Foley. She grew up in the Gorham's corner area of Portland and graduated from Portland High School in 1942. After graduation, she went to work in the accounting department at Hay's Drug Store where she met her husband, Philip J. Fox, and so many life-long friends. Mary loved being a stay-at-home mom and raising her 5 children. After the kids were older, she worked in the Circulation Dept. of the Portland Press Herald until she retired in 1988. She was an original member of the "The Club Girls", a women's group of family and friends who started to meet bi-monthly just after World War II and continued for over 60 years. She served as Secretary of the Democratic Party in Cape Elizabeth for several years. Mary was predeceased by her mother and father, Tom and Anne Foley, her husband, Philip J. Fox, her son, Daniel J. Fox, sister, Anne Tarbox, and son-in-law, Peter J. Kempers. She is survived by her sons, Stephen T. Fox of South Portland, and James M. Fox and his wife Theresa of Cape Elizabeth, daughters, Jeanne C. Kempers of Fairfield, ME and Patty Whitcomb and her husband, T.J. Whitcomb, of Cape Elizabeth. Also surviving are grandchildren, Colleen M. Whitcomb and Erin D. Whitcomb of Cape Elizabeth. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at South Portland Nursing Home for their outstanding and loving care. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway. Prayers will be recited at the Chapel at 9:15am on Thursday, October 9, 2014 followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church, Two Lights Rd, Cape Elizabeth. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
